focusing on oil paintings with a focus around
figurative and surreal tensions of balance
in the world and ourselves.
Weylin Neyra
B.1991
Miami, Florida ⨫ Austin, Texas
Weylin’s artwork exudes a deeply surreal and emotive quality, reminiscent of dreamscapes that toe the line between the familiar and the uncanny. The soft, almost fluid edges of his subjects evoke a sense of transformation, as if they are in a state of becoming or unraveling. This fluidity is juxtaposed with the solidity of certain elements—hands, faces, and objects—imbuing them with a haunting presence. His work explores the relationship between the self and the environment, with figures often appearing isolated, contemplative, or in dialogue with their surroundings. The landscapes, while not strictly naturalistic, carry a weight of significance, acting as both backdrop and character in the unfolding visual story, with an apparent focus on themes of identity, existential reflection, and perhaps even the subconscious.
